A collection for the extravagant.
We're talking bold, striking, in-your-face, dramatic aromas and flavours that will blow your socks of. The wine-producing regions of Stellenbosch, Franschhoek, and Paarl make up the well-known and widely-respected "old guard" of South African viticulture. Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinotage, and Bordeaux-style red blends produce rich and robust wines, with great fruit intensity and full-bodied palates. The whites of Stellenbosch are fruit-driven and tropical, with Chardonnay and Chenin Blanc leading the way, followed by Sauvignon Blanc. The many microclimates and huge variation in terroir however, makes for some surprising characteristics the wines included in this collection. The two Chardonnay's are the most distinct, with the Eikendal Infused by Earth expressing the cooling influence of the nearby Atlantic Ocean in its light, fresh notes of blossom, fynbos, grapefruit and white peach; and the Glenwood Grand Duc Chardonnay showing off the typical warm-climate characteristics of an oaked Chardonnay, with buttered toast, and a full, rich, creamy mouth feel of almonds and vanilla. Normally a cool climate varietal, The Dalla Cia Sauvignon Blanc is the perfect exception to the rule. While still maintaining the lightness of Sauvignon Blanc, the straw yellow appearance and extroverted notes of ripe fig, gooseberry and citrus make this a distinctly warm-climate wine; almost reminiscent of the controversial Fumé Blanc style.
The reds in this collection is where the Bordeaux influence of Stellenbosch really shines through: from a classic Bordeaux blend like the Avondale La Luna, to the epitomal Bordeaux single varietal in the Eikendal Cabernet Sauvignon. The Tamboerskloof John Spicer Syrah on the other hand, is a beautiful example of a warm climate Rhône varietal showing riper, even jammy, fruit flavours and sweet spice (click here to shop our Cool Climate Collection to compare Syrah's!).

Food pairing suggestions
With all wines in this collection showing bold, strong and full bodied palates, food pairings range from saucy braised beef, lamb, and venison dishes, roasted vegetable dishes, to strong, creamy cheeses and even chocolate desserts for the reds. The tannins cut through these heavy, fatty, salty dishes, whereas the dark fruits in the wines amplify the sweet notes - in a good way. The prominent acidity levels in these big wines create the perfect counterbalance for the richness of the dishes and the full body of the wines, allowing you to indulge even further in the rich, decadent food and wine combination. Christmas dinner anyone?
The whites work beautifully with any white fish or white meat dishes, creamy pastas or strong vegetarian dishes, like a goat cheese and peach galette. The GlenWood Chardonnay is excellent paired with a beef & truffle carpaccio, as the butteriness and nuttiness of the wine complements the earthiness of the truffle.
