2017 is the first vintage of Elpidios that is Grenache-based, with support from Syrah (20%), Carignan (19%), Cinsault (10%) and Pinotage (10%). Reflecting the grape’s reputation as the “Pinot Noir of the south”, this is wonderfully aromatic, subtle and refined. The nose is brooding with notes of dried herbs, olive, liqourice and earth to go with red and black fruit while the palate is relatively lean, fresh and very savoury with firm, sculpted, fine tannins, bright acidity and plum, cherry stone and raspberry fruit.
